Citation: The hip joint is basically a ball-and-socket type of synovial joint that helps in connecting the pelvic girdle to the lower leg. The femur is the longest, strongest bone in the body. It's a critical part of ability to stand and move. Hip injuries are extremely common in people of all ages. Individuals who participate in sports have an increased risk of hip injuries. Seniors and people carrying extra weight also are at risk for hip injury. The break or fracture in the femur bone is often caused by severe injury such as trauma sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
