Між вірою і націоналізмом: спогади о. Севастіана Сабола, ЧСВВ і доля Греко-Католицької Церкви в Чехословаччині 1945–1950 рр.

Abstract

Одним із наслідків «лінгвістичного повороту» кінця 1970-их стало «повернення» до такого різновиду джерела, де людина промовляє від імені власного «я». Ідеться про т.зв. еgo-документ, в якому особистість проступає найвиразніше – лист, щоденник чи мемуари, протокол із засвідченням прямих висловлювань, текст якоїсь промови тощо. Ясна річ, що такі джерела особистого походження дослідники використовували й раніше.

In the given article the author analyzes the memories " Golgotha of the Greek Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia" by Fr. Sevastiyan Sabol on the basis of the historical-critical method, as a source the memories are compared with some other archival documents, memoir literature and contemporary state of the historical researches of the GCC in Czechoslovakia and in the USSR on the territory of Transcarpathia before the time when the poet-Basilian escaped abroad (August, 1948), from this the author comes to the following conclusions: first of all, the sources being incredibly self-centered as memories of Fr. S. Sabol do not render the objective state of the studied subject and object; secondly, having met with atheist-communist regime (adaptation - adapted, assimilation - apostates and opportunists - repressed) Zoreslav chooses the identity of a coward who throughout the whole book prepares the reader to the 'right' understanding of the escapism from reality; thirdly, the distorted and sometimes fictional romantic detective stories of Fr. S. Sabol, being poorly confirmed by other sources, have failed to inspire confidence among historians, primarily the slovak ones; and, fourthly, all the time looking for a place of service between God and the nation, the monk of Slovak origin and Ukrainian identity, has always preferred to worship the nationalist idol rather than faith in God's Saving mission of Jesus Christ, and his flight abroad in the middle of the mass arrests of brothers and sisters in the Order and the Church serves as a clear proof of this.
