Філіпп Майєр у контексті сучасного літературознавства: аналіз рецепційних підходів

Abstract

У статті здійснено аналіз творчості Філіппа Майєра, одного з найвизначніших американських прозаїків сучасності, та її значення в літературній критиці. Його романи «Американська іржа» та «Син» привернули значну увагу дослідників завдяки майстерному поєднанню історичних сюжетів із елементами соціального реалізму, що дозволяє підняти глибокі теми національної ідентичності, колоніалізму, насильства та культурного занепаду. У статті наголошується, що Ф. Майєр, розглядаючи історичне минуле й сучасність через призму людських доль, створює новий, оригінальний погляд на американську історію, що має глибокий відгук у сучасних читачів. Завдяки цьому, творчість Ф. Майєра значно впливає на розвиток американської літератури, додаючи нові жанрові та стилістичні риси, які допомагають висвітлити складні соціокультурні процеси сучасного суспільства. Особливу увагу в дослідженні приділено критичній оцінці творів Ф. Майєра в контексті формування новітньої «американської епопеї». Літературознавці зазначають, що Ф. Майєр майстерно зображує історичні процеси та їхній відбиток на сучасній Америці, що стає однією з ключових характеристик його творчого стилю. У дебютному романі «Американська іржа» автор звертається до проблем занепаду американської мрії, занепаду індустріальних міст США та соціального відчуження їхніх мешканців, що перетворює цей твір на своєрідне дзеркало економічних і культурних викликів, з якими зіткнулося американське суспільство. Роман «Син» стає ще одним знаковим прикладом епічного осмислення історичних процесів: у ньому життя поколінь сім'ї МакКаллоу розкривається через багатоаспектний наратив, що дозволяє глибоко зануритися в теми історичної пам'яті, спадковості насильства й формування національної ідентичності. Результати дослідження акцентують значущість творчості Ф. Майєра в сучасній американській літературі, яка завдяки його прозі здобуває нові форми епічного роману та інтерпретації актуальних суспільних змін.

The article analyzes the work of Philipp Meyer, one of the most prominent contemporary American prose writers, and its significance in literary criticism. His novels „American Rust” and „The Son” have attracted considerable scholarly attention due to their masterful blending of historical narratives with elements of social realism, allowing for an exploration of deep themes such as national identity, colonialism, violence, and cultural decline. The article emphasizes that by examining historical past and present through the lens of human destinies, Ph. Meyer creates a new, original perspective on American history, which resonates profoundly with modern readers. As a result, Meyer's work has a significant impact on the development of American literature, adding new genre and stylistic elements that help illuminate the complex sociocultural processes of contemporary society. Particular attention in the study is devoted to the critical evaluation of Meyer’s works within the context of the formation of a new „American epic”. Scholars note that Ph. Meyer skillfully portrays historical processes and their impact on contemporary America, a defining characteristic of his creative style. In his debut novel „American Rust”, the author addresses issues such as the decline of the American dream, the decay of industrial cities in the U.S., and the social alienation of their inhabitants, transforming this work into a kind of mirror reflecting the economic and cultural challenges faced by American society. „The Son” is another striking example of the epic interpretation of historical processes: the lives of generations of the McCullough family are depicted through a multi-layered narrative that allows for an in-depth exploration of themes like historical memory, inherited violence, and the formation of national identity. The study’s findings highlight the significance of Meyer’s work in contemporary American literature, which, through his prose, gains new forms of epic narrative and interpretation of current social changes.
