Використання відеоматеріалів TED-Ed для розвитку навичок слухання у студентів медичних спеціальностей

Abstract

У навчанні рецептивних навичок, зокрема слухання, відео-тексти відіграють важливу роль. У статті розглядається ефективність використання відеоматеріалів TED-Ed у процесі навчання англійської мови студентів медичних спеціальностей, зокрема на прикладі відео «A day in the life of an ancient Egyptian doctor». Мета дослідження – проаналізувати ефективність використання коротких відео на платформі TED-Ed для вдосконалення навичок аудіювання у студентів медичних спеціальностей, а також розробити методичні рекомендації для викладачів. Дослідження ґрунтується на аналізі публікацій та наукових досліджень, а також враховує практичний аспект через розробку плану уроку з використанням відео TED-Ed, що передбачає завдання до, під час і після перегляду відео, які сприяють актуалізації вивченої лексики та розвитку навичок аудіювання. У статті застосовано сучасні методи викладання іноземних мов та принципи активного слухання. Пропонується новий підхід до використання навчальних відеоматеріалів у контексті медичної освіти, який демонструє ефективність інтеграції відео у процес навчання аудіювання. Крім того, розкрито специфіку роботи з відео залежно від рівня підготовки студентів. Наукова новизна роботи полягає в ідентифікації специфічних підходів до використання мультимедійного контенту в медичній освіті, які сприяють формуванню ключових комунікативних навичок. Використання відео-матеріалів TED-Ed сприяє покращенню навичок аудіювання та підвищує рівень зацікавленості студентів. Висновки дослідження свідчать, що інтеграція відеоматеріалів TED-Ed у заняттях з іноземної мови для майбутніх фахівців у сфері медицини не лише підвищує зацікавленість студентів, а й розвиває їхнє критичне мислення та навички вирішення проблем, що є важливим аспектом формування фахових компетенцій.

In teaching receptive skills, in particular listening, video texts play an important role. The article examines the effectiveness of using TED-Ed video materials in the process of teaching English to medical students, in particular, using the video «A day in the life of an ancient Egyptian doctor». The purpose of the study is to analyze the effectiveness of using short videos on the TED-Ed platform to improve listening skills in medical students, as well as to develop methodological recommendations for teachers. The study is based on an analysis of existing publications and scientific research, and also includes a practical aspect through the development of a lesson plan using TED-Ed videos, which comprises tasks before, during and after watching the videos that contribute to the actualization of learned vocabulary and the development of listening skills. The article applies modern methods of teaching foreign languages and the principles of active listening. The article offers a new approach to the use of educational video materials, especially in the context of medical education, and demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating videos into the process of teaching listening comprehension. In addition, the specifics of working with videos depending on the level of students’ training are revealed. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the identification of specific approaches to the use of multimedia content in medical education, which contribute to the formation of key communication skills. The use of TED-Ed video materials helps improve listening skills and increases the level of engagement of students. The study indicates that the integration of TED-Ed videos into foreign language classes for future specialists in the field of medicine not only increases the interest of students, but also develops their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which is an important aspect of the formation of professional competencies.
