Abstract:	The article presents the analysis of methodological principles of the theory of nation, which belong to Volodymyr Starosolskij – one of the founders of Ukrainian natiology of the first half of XXth century. The essence and the basic issues of the theory are defined: features of national community, factors of natiogenesis, correlation between the processes of nation and state formation, stages. In the article there have been defined those historical-political ideas of the Ukrainian scholar, which according to the author’s view, keep being relevant nowadays for the practice of present-day state formation in Ukraine.
