Abstract

The article deals with the problem of democratization in Islamic countries. Author pays special attention to the particularities of the democratic institutions' functioning in Muslim world, analyses the reasons leading to a great number of difficulties facing this process, underlining the importance of traditional social structures. The article touches upon a question of interaction between religious believes, Islamic political principles and the elements of democracy. Author came to conclusion that now the most of Islamic countries are only at the beginning of their way to democratic political regime and explained this situation by the influence of traditional political culture and historically set relations between governors and society as between different groups within society.
