Політизація етнічної свідомості в Болгарії у період трансформаційних змін

Abstract

Politicization of ethnic identity during the transformation changes appeared in particularly negative aspect in the Balkans. Permanent unabated conflicts, which existed in the region during 1990s, still arise there sporadically. Though Bulgaria managed to avoid apparent social confrontation; regardless of the events in the neighboring states and complexity of the inner political, social and economical situation. Analysis of the transformation process in Bulgaria allows us to draw conclusion that there is no definite program for the development of ethnic policy, and there have always been enough displays of nationalism, especially in the beginning of transformation. The situation significantly changed after it joined the EU.
