Abstract: The article gives an overview of approaches to the definition of the concepts of "intercultural competence", "professional competence", and their correlation. Intercultural competence is attributed to a group of key competencies of an individual as a whole and professional competence of a modern specialist. It is proved that it makes the basis for the professional development of specialists. It is considered simultaneously as a: range of issues a person should be aware of; gained experience, information resource, knowledge in a particular subject area; socially required requirement for the training of a specialist in a particular field.
