Концепт italy у романах Дена Брауна

Abstract

Наукова стаття присвячена висвітленню особливостей вербалізації концепту «Italy» у циклі романів відомого американського письменника Дена Брауна. Наголошено на багатозначності терміну «концепт» та розглянуто особливості лінгвокультурного концепту. Обґрунтовано необхідність дослідження лінгвокультурного концепту «Italy» на матеріалі художніх текстів. Актуальність наукової розвідки засновується також на недостатній висвітленості особливостей вербалізації концепту «Italy» у сучасній англійській мові. Метою дослідження є виявлення особливостей функціонування концепту «Italy» у зразках сучасної американської англомовної літератури, що у подальшому дозволить зробити висновки щодо репрезентації концепту «Italy» у сучасній англійській мові. До переліку розглянутих творів включено «Янголи та демони» (2000), «Код да Вінчі» (2003), «Втрачений символ» (2009), «Інферно» (2013) та «Джерело» (2017) оскільки більшість подій, описаних у романах, відбуваються на території Італії. Упродовж наукових студій автором статті було здійснено частотний аналіз використання лексеми «Italy» у перерахованих романах та спроба структуризації семантичних складових для подальшого вивчення. У результаті проведення дослідження автором було з’ясовано певні закономірності: концепт «Italy» найчастіше вербалізується у романах Дена Брауна у значенні «територія держави» та особливо часто автор романів підкреслює, що ця держава знаходиться на значній відстані від Сполучених штатів Америки, тому одним з найбільш часто вживаних значень є «співставлення із США». Наступними найчастотнішими категоріями в ході дослідження виявилися «високорозвинена держава», «видатні правителі та митці» та «історичне минуле». Найменш частотними у проаналізованих творах виявилися такі значення концепту «Italy» як «одна з країн Європи», «співставлення з Францією», «унікальні витвори мистецтва» та «побут». Результати проведеного дослідження можуть бути використані для подальшого вивчення особливостей вербалізації концепту «Italy» у художньому дискурсі, сучасній американській або англомовній літературі та сучасній англійській мові.

The scientific article is devoted to highlighting the peculiarities of the verbalization of the concept “Italy” in the series of novels by the famous American writer Dan Brown. The ambiguity of the term “concept” is emphasized and the peculiarities of the linguistic and cultural concept are considered. The necessity of researching the linguocultural concept “Italy” based on the material of artistic texts is substantiated. The relevance of scientific research is also based on insufficient coverage of the peculiarities of the verbalization of the concept “Italy” in the modern English language. The purpose of the study is to identify the peculiarities of the functioning of the concept “Italy” in samples of modern American English-language literature, which will further allow us to make conclusions about the representation of the concept “Italy” in the modern English language. The list of consider “The Lost Symbol” (2009), “Inferno” (2013) and “Origin” (2017), since most of the events described in novels take place on the territory of Italy. During scientific studies, the author of the article carried out a frequency analysis of the use of the lexeme “Italy” in the listed novels and an attempt to structure the semantic components for further study. As a result of the research, the author found out certain regularities: the concept “Italy” is most often verbalized in Dan Brown's novels in the meaning of “the territory of the state@ and especially often the author of the novels emphasizes that this state is at a considerable distance from the United States of America, therefore one of the most commonly used meanings are “Italy vs the USA”. The next most frequent categories in the study were “a highly developed state”, “prominent rulers and artists” and “historical past”. The least frequent meanings of the concept “Italy” as “one of the countries of Europe”, “Italy vs France”, “unique works of art” and “lifestyle” were found in the analyzed works. The results of the conducted research can be used for further study of the peculiarities of the verbalization of the concept “Italy” in artistic discourse, modern American or English-language literature, and modern English language.
