Прецедентні феномени як засіб мовної гри в англо-українському перекладі науково-популярних текстів

Abstract

Статтю присвячено дослідженню прецедентних феноменів як одного з проявів мовної гри в тестах науково-популярного дискурсу. В статті представлено спробу дати визначення поняттю прецедентних феноменів саме з позиції того, що для науково-популярних текстів вони є однією з найбільш репрезентативних форм реалізації мовної гри. Запропоновано типи диференціації прецедентних феноменів, причому в перекладознавчому аспекті найбільш актуальним видається розмежування прецедентних феноменів за їхньою цільової аудиторією. В межах такої диференціації прецедентні феномени можна розділити на універсальні, знайомі представникам більшості культур світу, міжнаціональні, зрозумілі для представників декількох певних культур та таких, що можуть представляти труднощі для розуміння представникам інших культур, внутрішньонаціональні, зрозумілі лише в рамках певної культури, та групові, розраховані лише на певні групи людей, об’єднаних за певною ознакою. Очевидно, що прецедентні феномени різних груп будуть представляти різні ступені перекладацьких складнощів та вимагатимуть застосування різних перекладацьких стратегій. При цьому потрібно визнати, що в цілому переклад прецедентних феноменів не вимагає звертання перекладачів до безлічі стратегій, та можна виділити дві найбільш частотні з них. Перша стратегія представляє собою застосування прямого словникового відповідника та, умовно, буде використовуватися в більшості випадків перекладу універсальних прецедентних явищ. Друга стратегія полягає у застосуванні непрямого (функціонального) відповідника та буде більш актуальною для перекладу міжнаціональних та внутрішньонаціональних прецедентних феноменів, які для кращого розуміння їх в перекладі будуть вимагати або застосування певних перекладацьких трансформацій, або додаткових коментарів перекладача, або комбінації цих двох підходів з боку перекладача.

The article is devoted to the study of precedent phenomena as one of the manifestations of language play in the tests of popular science discourse. The article presents an attempt to define the concept of precedent phenomena from the point of view that for popular science texts they are one of the most representative forms of language play. The types of differentiation of precedent phenomena are proposed, and in the translation aspect, the most relevant is the differentiation of precedent phenomena by their target audience. Within the framework of this differentiation, precedent phenomena can be divided into universal ones, familiar to representatives of most cultures of the world, international ones, understandable to representatives of several specific cultures and those that may be difficult to understand for representatives of other cultures, intra-national ones, understandable only within a certain culture, and group ones, intended only for certain groups of people united by a certain characteristic. Obviously, the case phenomena of different groups will present different degrees of translation difficulties and require different translation strategies. At the same time, it should be acknowledged that, in general, the translation of precedent phenomena does not require translators to use a multitude of strategies, but two of the most frequent ones can be identified. The first strategy is the use of a direct dictionary equivalent and will be used in most cases of translation of universal precedent phenomena. The second strategy is the use of an indirect (functional) equivalent and will be more relevant for the translation of international and intra-national precedent phenomena, which, in order to better understand them in translation, will require either the use of certain translation transformations or additional translator's comments, or a combination of these two approaches on the part of the translator.
