| Abstract: | Метою статті є аналіз економічної сутності та причини виникнення світових фінансових криз. Методика дослідження. Для досягнення поставленої мети використано такі методи: системний аналіз, порівняльний аналіз, узагальнення та систематизація інформації. Результати. У статті наведено еволюцію трактувань фінансова криза. Проаналізовано моделі першого, другого та третього покоління фінансових криз. Наведено та проаналізовано класифікації фінансових криз та причини їх виникнення. Практична значущість результатів дослідження полягає в тому, що отримані результати дослідження можуть бути корисні для розуміння економічної сутності фінансових криз. Глибинне дослідження каналів передачі кризи в її життєвому циклі допоможе розробити більш ефективну стратегію посилення стійкос- ті економіки до криз. |
| Description: | To achieve this goal, the following methods were used: system analysis, comparative analysis, generalisation and systematisation of information. Results. The variety of classifications of the essence of this concept and the huge scale of losses have led to the fact that there are many classifications of crises in the economic literature. The article presents the evolution of interpretations of the term “financial crisis”. Financial crises are not a new phenomenon, but it is true that the same elements are present in all types of crises. Financial innovations, integration, and globalisation of global financial markets have led to the emergence of some new fac- tors that, despite their similarities, distinguish modern crises from those of the distant past. The sharp realities of financial globalisation become apparent during crises when difficulties arise. The models of the first, second and third generation of financial crises are analysed. The model of D.S. Krugman and its extensions belong to the mo dels of the first generation of balance of payments crises, according to which the deficit of the money supply prompts the monetary authorities to finance the deficit by printing money. A characteristic feature of second-generation models is that they explain how a crisis is transmitted from one country to another, and also emphasise that it is an endogenous decision if the government decides to abandon the fixed exchange rate policy. Third-generation models advise monetary policy makers in individual countries to implement credit restriction policies in the face of functioning imperfect financial markets. Classifications of financial crises and their causes are presented and analysed. The practical significance of the research results is that the findings of the study can be useful for understanding the economic essence of financial crises. An in-depth study of the channels of crisis transmission in its life cycle will help to develop a more effective strategy for strengthening the economy’s resilience to crises. We believe that a financial crisis is a manifestation of an economic crisis that reflects distrust in the financial system and disrupts the functioning of the market mechanism. |
